Zapopan is one of the 125 municipalities that make up the state of Jalisco. Its population is 1,243,538 inhabitants, a fact that makes it the eighth most populous municipality in the country and the second in the state, surpassed by Guadalajara, which together with eight municipalities make up the Metropolitan Zone. Locations and tourist attractions such as the Andares Shopping Center, the Zapopan Art Museum, the Performing Arts Complex, the Telmex Auditorium, the University Cultural Center, the Palace of Culture and Congress, among others, place Zapopan in one of the 20 municipalities in Mexico with higher income GDP per capita and Human Development Index (IDH).
