Zapopan, Jal., March 11.- The second seeds of the tournament, Hungarian Fanny Stollar and American Maria Sanchez defeated 6-1, 3-6, 10/7 the Americans Caroline Dolehide and Vania King, to reach the semifinals of the WTA 250 Abierto Zapopan 2021.
With this victory, Stollar and Sanchez won the right to play the semifinals, where they will face the winners of the match between Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard and US’ Coco Vandeweghe and the third seeds, the Australians Astra Sharma and Ellen Perez.
In the first set the Stollar/Sanchez duo started with a double break to take a strong 5-0 lead. The defending champions of the Zapopan tournament put the American pair through a lot of troubles, with excellent cross-court angles and effective plays at the net, closing out the set 6-1, in just 23 minutes.
In the second set, Dolehide/King increased their level and got their reward on the eighth game, when they took a 5-3 lead and with the service in their favor. Winning their serve, they closed out the set 6-3 in 35 minutes.
In the match tie break, Stollar and Sanchez confirmed their superiority by winning 10/7. They took one hour and 10 minutes to finish the game and get one step away from returning to the Jalisco final.
